My work concerns a woman trapped in her domestic environment fantasising her way out by using props and costumes to create new personas for herself, creating imaginary friends, partners and scenarios. These short videos and constructed photo works always feature the artist as performer. Ideas and influences come from myths and fairytales, popular culture/ film and television, dreams and autobiographical starting points. It follows the tradition of women creating in their own homes. Using lens based media to create a suspension of disbelief the part between fantasy and reality is explored, inviting the viewer to fill in the gaps and encouraging them to look at the edges of respectability in a different/heightened way. In the creation of the work the element of chance and accidental happening is inherent. Above all, humour prevails.
