Statement
Rosie Miller uses narrative to explore notions of the uncanny,
finding the unfamiliar in the familiar.
As a way of locating both our adult and childhood emotions surrounding
the tableaux she creates, Miller chooses to work with materials
that tap into notions of handicraft, modelling and play. Clay,
cardboard and paint are combined with toys, scale models and ornaments.
This combination of materials and objects distort time, scale and
place deliberately disrupting the initial reading of the narratives
and in doing so creating uncanny reactions. The viewer's interpretations
of these scenes become reflections of their own world.
