Suite invited Mark Devereux for a full day crit with studio members and associates. Devereux Projects supports visual artists through mentoring, critical dialogue and curatorial production. It was a very enjoyable and thought provoking day, with lively discussions and lots to reflect upon afterwards. Mark was very insightful and adept at posing the right questions. A few words from Mark:
“A good studio complex is one that allows affordable space, flexibility and a community for artists. We are fortunate in Manchester to have some great spaces for artists to work from within the city. I was delighted to have been invited to lead a critical dialogue day at Suite Studios, a studio network that puts the community of its artists at its core. It was a pleasure to see and experience first hand the peer-peer support mechanisms that have been built at Suite.
We spent the full day questioning, responding and sharing critique and dialogue on each of the studio and associate artists’ works/practices. What was and is evident from these conversations and viewing work in progress in the studios is that Suite host a wide variety of ambitious, talented and interesting artists. Working within varying mediums, interests and levels within their careers, it was fascinating to learn more and help advise these artists on future direction within their practices. I will definitely be watching out for what they all do next because there are some exciting projects and ideas in the pipeline.”
